MONTANA CANS LOOKBOOK 2022 Like a passenger on a speeding train, you don’t always pay attention to all the stations you pass if the train you are on is running express to your destination. As a result, we concentrate on making sure that we get off at the right stop in those infrequent moments when the train finally comes to a halt. For many artists, creatives, and people active in the cultures of graffiti and street art, this is how they remember 2021/22. For the team at Montana Cans, our partners, customers, and supporters, this is something we can relate to. And it is one of the reasons why the Montana Cans Lookbook has been gaining value each year as an archiving document that helps to remind us to look back and reflect on some of the special moments that we didn’t get a chance to do while in the moment. A little something for everyone, the 7th Montana Cans Lookbook 2021/22 captures some of those inspiring events and happenings that made an otherwise challenging period more creative, and bearable. While we were continuously being told when we could, and couldn’t, leave our homes, it was proved that you can lock artistic people down, but you can’t keep their creativity on lock. When times are tough there is often friction. And where there’s friction, there are some of the most inspiring creative achievements ever made. While on the topic of friction, shortly before the print deadline of this book, the current state of affairs for our Eastern neighbors in the Ukraine and Russia escalated to the point of conflict. Our thoughts go out to all our Ukrainian and Russian graffiti writing friends and colleagues in the interest of equality, solidarity, peace, and non-violent relationships. A treasure trove of collectible cans was released in collaboration with some of the biggest movers and shakers in the game. The Montana BLACK Artist Edition cans, the Iconic Series, and Montana Collabo cans all raised the bar for design-savvy appreciators and collectors of limited-edition top-quality cans. A light was shone upon some of the most innovative artists from within the graffiti scene and its periphery, giving us some insight into how and why they do what they do. Whether it be in Europe, Asia, the United States, or anywhere across the globe. We dug a little deeper than just vibrant colors and eye-candy with some mind-opening articles and interviews that covered a wide array of engaging topics that often only get scratched at the surface. Topics like the rise of the tag, as it transcends into the territory of the piece at the top of the food chain while still maintaining its historical graffiti form as a handmade tag. We left the city and got back to the rusty rails to see how kings can return to their thrones in the kingdom of the freight yard. We learned how a graffiti artist can earn the title of being an icon, while others shared some depth on personal experiences and observations. We look at some of the epic events that bring street art and graffiti cultures even further, while in some cases awakening the consciousness of society as a whole. While others managed to bring us all back together on the streets, united in color. Not to mention all the innovative products and merch released by Montana Cans during 2021/22, all for your reading pleasure within the pages of the MONTANA CANS LOOKBOOK #07 2021/2022.
