↑ “PANT 1 TWO”. A playful tip of the hat to PANTONE, the Spanish graffiti artist turned fine artist. → Even football (or soccer) gets a mention in the SUPER- SPRAY arsenal of graffiti humor. ↑ BLADE. A homage to a king in his own style with a unique characterized portrait of BLADE himself. Another aspect SUPER- SPRAY has become known for. ↓ Another HOT DOG rendition of respected graffiti icons. This time a respectful version of the OS GE- MEOS brothers. Whether it be a homage to a graffiti legend or a new invention of a re-invention, his work is often so simple that it appears complicated. And the same in reverse. ↓ Stars, fades, and style. This HOT DOG piece comes complete with “GOBERTO REISSINI” shout-out. ↓ Even SEEN couldn’t escape the SUPER- SPRAY homage and unique personalized portrait. 90 Artist in Focus Superspray
There are many factors to SUPERSPRAY’s graffiti writing that make him a standout artist from the vast array of talent coming out of his home city Hamburg, out of Germany, and from abroad. Style is just one of them. Although his pieces have often referred to those who came before him, his style is always unique and recognizable as only his. Whether it be a homage to a graffiti legend or a new invention of a re-invention, his work is often so simple that it appears complicated. And the same in reverse. SUPERSPRAY is not afraid to paint outside the box. Or the circle, the background, or any other shape for that matter. As touched on in the essay by Jim129, for those that look at a SUPERSPRAY piece for the first time unaware of who he is or what he does, they could quickly come to the assumption that it may have been done by a toy. However, in an even quicker period of time, they promptly come to the realization that the artwork that they are being dazzled by has been done by a technically apt graffiti veteran who has made a conscious decision to paint the piece exactly as he wanted. With a touch of rebellion and a healthy dose of humor, SUPERSPRAY, HOT DOG, RIPS (or whatever it is you may think you know of him as), has carved a path in his local, national, and international graffiti scene with a fuck you attitude that is well received all over the world. ↓ An intriguing choice of repetition, two colors, and simple hand styles. Even HOT DOG tags stand out from the crowd. Artist in Focus Superspray 91
