GRadient descent PROJECT TEAM @alonetheartist, @alsinoskowronnek @theodorguelat, @team_flightmode LOCATION Berlin DE Algorithms have quietly snuck into our lives in almost all fields of our daily lives. These algorithms are usually designed to serve as vehicles for ever greater efficiency as a primary goal. In this setup, we are, more than anything, consumers - rather than creators. Especially in graffiti, these new technologies imply rather negative outlooks. Reading the news sometimes feels like a glitch in the matrix instead of reality. An increasing amount of futuristic surveillance with enhanced facial recognition software or autonomous robotic dogs roaming train yards in search of any disruption present a whole new set of obstacles. No wonder many writers feel uncertainty. 92 Recap GRADIENT DESCENT

A selection of works that were fed into the team's AI software, teaching it the forms and stylisations of graffiti A creative collective's desire to explore new possibilities resulted in a unique collaboration between artists and AI. They embarked on an unpredictable experiment, driven by a single question: What if a machine and a writer joined forces to create new graffiti pieces on trains? Outcomes generated by the AI software based on the artworks it learned from, these forms are both familiar and unrecognisable. Recap GRADIENT DESCENT 93
